During my internship at Mutado, I got to chance to participate in the development of the Rate my Cake iPhone app. The Rate my Cake app is designed to take pictures of your homemade cakes and to share these with your friends and followers. I was responsible for the design of the icons that are pointing out which occasions a cake is suitable for.Graphic Design, Icon Design, UI/UX2013
C-mine cultuurcentrum, a cultural hotspot in the city of Genk, contacted me to do the graphic design of their Young Turks (Jonge Turken) exhibition. The Young Turks exhibition is giving the chance to young visual artists to expose their work, concerning identity and diversity in Genk and the surrounding region.
C-mine cultuurcentrum asked me to come up with an idea that captivated the fact that the exhibition was concerning personal topics, expressed by young artists, though still with a sense of humor and perspective.Art Direction, Exhibition Design, Graphic Design2013
This project was part of the Typography bachelor class during my studies at the Media, Arts & Design faculty. This type specimen reveals all technical aspects of the Charis SIL font, designed by Matthew Carter for SIL International.Graphic Design, Typography2012
Midnight Directives, a very young Belgian band, asked me to design the cover of their first album. The album is called 'In line for light' and will be released in the summer of 2012.
With a very dreamy sound and rather abstract lyrics, they developed a very personal style. I tried to design a cover that reflected these features and at the same time corresponded with the album name.
The five little branches correspond with the fact that the band has five members. The branches are lined up, 'in line'. The composition of the lines are also representing the little lines we draw when we are counting, or waiting for something to happen. Also, with 'broken branches' as a debut single, I figured branches were very relevant to work with.Graphic Design, Illustration, Packaging2012
In this school assignment I had to develop a book that visualized the essence of an artist of choice, without being literal. This book was definitely not allowed to become a biography, nor a tour book. It had to be my personal interpretation of the artist.
I chose to work with Amatorski, a young Belgian music band that I consider - in a few words - to be vintage, melancholic, dreamy and storytelling.
This first proposal got rejected, but I think it's worth publishing this brief impression anyways.Editorial Design, Graphic Design, Illustration2013
Franco Palano Paint is a one man company, which delivers fast and efficient paint jobs at home.
Considering the client's request for a paint gun to be processed in the logo, I came up with this typographical interpretation of a paint gun spelling out the company's initials.Branding, Graphic Design, Typography2012
For my Social Design master class, I was asked to join a research group of choice to design a relevant object or product. I chose to work with the 'social spaces' research group, that had been researching social spaces for about four years. At that time, the group was investigating all aspects of living with (people with) dementia.
Through intensive social research -I spent an entire weekend in a closed institution for people with dementia- I came up with this app concept for tablet devices, which should be an improvement to these peoples' lives. The app is an interactive version of a persons' Lifebook. These books are already existing, but only in physical form. A lifebook is basically a scrapbook that tells the entire life of a person through pictures and small anecdotes. Making an interactive app out of them would be a big upgrade. It makes the experience a lot more intense, delivers a new level of entertainment, helps with the training of the brain and also stimulates people to make more gestures with their arms, hands and fingers.
Here are some screenshots of the demo version I created.Graphic Design, Interaction Design, UI/UX2013
